"thestar.com"によると、徳升綾乃さんの遺体が木曜日の午前１０時にアメリカ側の滝付近で発見されたという。アメリカ側の滝は、ちょうどカナダ側の滝と滝つぼの間にあり、滝つぼまで流されなかったことが、早期発見に繋がったといえよう。
ナイアガラの滝、ニューヨーク州立公園アトラクションの一つである『風の洞窟』の職員が、女性の遺体がナイアガラ川下流に浮かんでいるのを発見した。最初はそれが、日曜日に滝に転落した徳升さんの遺体とはわからなかったそうだ。
月曜日からカナダとアメリカの捜索隊が徳升さんを探していたが、木曜日の朝、『風の洞窟』職員の連絡を受けてNY州立公園警察が現地に向かい、ナイアガラ渓谷とブライダルヴェールの滝の近くにある ツーリスト・アトラクションの『風の洞窟』の３０メートル下で女性の遺体を確認した。消防隊の協力を得て、遺体をナイアガラ川から引き上げた。
トロントの日本領事館の大塚書記官によると、徳升さんのご家族に連絡をとったが、コメントを公にすることは、領事館を通してでも控えたいということだ。徳増さんのご家族は今回の悲劇でかなりのショックを受けており、言葉を失うのも当然だろう。外務省からも連絡をとったという。
リバーフォールズの町
徳升さんが通っていたヘンサ語学センターでは、その積極的な態度や人懐こい笑顔、その上、知的な女性として知られた徳升さんはクラスでも人気者だった。昨日の記事でも紹介した徳升さんのフェイスブックによると、徳升さんは愛知県の豊橋市出身（コメントには豊川市出身との指摘もいただいている）だという。
エリー地区の監察医が今日、遺体の検死を行ったが、夜現在、遺体の身元はいまだに確認されていないという。そんなわけで、まだ完全にその遺体が徳升さんのものであるかどうかはわからないが、遺体が見つかった場所とタイミングからして、徳升さんにほぼ間違いないだろう。
追記(８月１９日）：その後、昨日引き上げられた女性 の遺体は、徳升さんであることが確認された。ナイアガラ・パーク警察のダグ・ケーン巡査部長が、NY州立公園警察から聞いた情報によると、昨日発見された遺体は、先週ナイアガラ川に転落した行方不明の女性のものと確認されたそうだ。
短い人生だったけど、徳升さんは自分のやりたいことをやって、楽しい、充実した時を過ごしたに違いない。自分の人生を振り返ってみると、若い頃はスリルや刺激を求めやってはいけないことをやってしまった。もし、自分が２０歳で、ナイアガラの滝に来て、写真を撮るとしたら、やはりみんながあっというような写真を撮りたいと思っただろう。フェイスブックに載せるので少し無理して危険がいっぱいの写真を撮りたい。若い頃は誰でもそんなものではないか。

しかし、まさかそれが死につながるとは誰も思わなかっただろう。たまたまそのときに強い風が吹いて、バランスをくずし、足元がすべってしまった。運が悪かった。禁じられていることをするときは、いつも死の危険が伴うことを忘れてはならない。ナイスショットと自分の命、どちらが大切かをよく考えるべきだった。死にたくなければ、やらないことだ。
徳升さんの死を無駄にしないように、ナイアガラの滝に来たら絶対に柵を越えないようにしよう。

追記（８月２０日）：徳升さんと一緒に働いたことがあるという方から、ご指摘を受け、漢字の訂正をさせていただいた。その方によると徳升さんはとても明るくて賢い女性だったそうだ。やはり語学学校での評判は本当だったようだ。
初めまして 身元が確認されたとの事で安心いたしました。
また、とても慈愛に満ちた文章で感動いたしました。彼女はほんの少しの間でしたが、一緒に働いていたことがあります。とても賢く、また明るい性格で今回の事故が信じられませんでした。
お名前は、徳升 が正しい表記になります。

Woman's body pulled from Niagara River

A woman's body was recovered from the American side of the Niagara River, days after a Japanese international student studying in Toronto went over the Horseshoe Falls.
ウィチタフォールズ、テキサス州のニュースAn employee at Cave of the Winds, a Niagara Falls, N.Y. state park attraction, reported a body floating in the lower Niagara River at around 10 a.m. Thursday.
On Sunday evening, Ayano Tokumasu, 20, was visiting Niagara Falls with a friend. Surveillance footage from a visitors' centre showed her climbing over a safety railing to pose for a photo. When she tried to climb back up, she toppled over and was swept into the rushing river at the edge of the falls.
A search undertaken by five Canadian and American police and parks departments recovered the body of a male on Monday, but turned up nothing else until Thursday.
Tokumasu, studying English in Toronto this summer, is missing and presumed dead. It was not immediately known if the body found Thursday was that of the young woman.
Masaya Otsuka, a diplomat at the Japanese Consulate-General in Toronto, said his organization had been in touch with Tokumasu's family, but so far they had declined to speak publicly or through the consul.
"Of course, this is a big tragedy for the family, too," Otsuka said. "The family is receiving a big shock."
He said the federal department of foreign affairs has also contacted Tokumasu's family.
She was identified by classmates at the Hansa Language Centre, and remembered fondly for her positive demeanour, her smile, and her intellect. Her Facebook profile lists her home as Toyohashi, a city in Aichi Prefecture, on the Pacific Ocean, about 250 kilometres southwest of Tokyo.
On Thursday, New York State Parks Police located a female body 30 metres below the Cave of the Winds, which is a tourist attraction near the Niagara Gorge and Bridal Veil Falls. The fire department assisted with lifting the body out of the water.
The Erie County medical examiner was expected to perform an autopsy on the body on Thursday. As of late Thursday, the identity of the victim had not been confirmed.
While conducting a sweep of the waterway Monday, searching for Tokumasu, the Erie County Sheriff's department helicopter also discovered the body of a male in the whirlpool area of the river.
On Thursday, he was positively identified by police as a 41-year-old Hamilton man who had previously been reported missing. The death is not considered suspicious, Niagara Regional Police said.
His name had not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

A woman's body recovered from the American side of the Niagara River has been identified as the Japanese student who was swept over Horseshoe Falls.
"We have received information from the State Parks Police confirming that the found remains from yesterday are those of the missing student that fell into the river last Sunday," Niagara Parks Police Chief Doug Kane said Friday.
